Bobby Humphreys, a formidable figure, is making a remarkable difference in the lives of diminutive canines! The inception of The Big Guy Littles World Sanctuary arose from an unwavering passion, committed to the welfare and rehoming of Chihuahuas burdened by adversity or unique needs.

Notably, if you had disclosed to Bobby a few years prior that this would be his calling, he would have dismissed the notion outright. Being a sizable individual, Bobby was naturally drawn to the robust and agile Rottweilers.

Initially, smaller breeds held scant allure for him, often eliciting jests directed at his male friends who owned petite dogs. However, the trajectory of his life began to pivot. His 17-year marriage abruptly unraveled, blindsiding him entirely. It was a period of profound darkness, where thoughts of self-harm loomed ominously.

Bobby found himself teetering on the brink, confiding, “I lost all faith in humanity. I saw no way out.” Yet, amidst his despair, a steadfast ally named Connie remained by his side, steadfast even as he pushed everyone away in his anguish. Having witnessed the devastating aftermath of suicide firsthand, she refused to turn a blind eye to the peril he faced.

Bobby learned firsthand the true essence of friendship through Connie’s unwavering support, leaving him profoundly thankful for her presence in his life. When Connie made the tough decision to relocate, leaving behind her beloved Chihuahua, Lady, she turned to Bobby for assistance.

Now, Lady wasn’t exactly known for her friendly demeanor, particularly towards men, and Bobby wasn’t particularly enamored with her either. He’d been regaled with tales of her mischievous antics, solidifying his reluctance to be in her company. Adding to his apprehension was the infamous incident where Lady ingested Connie’s son’s chemotherapy medication, resulting in lingering effects on her behavior.

Nevertheless, Connie’s friendship meant the world to Bobby, so when she reached out, pleading for him to care for Lady temporarily, he couldn’t refuse. Lady arrived and was swiftly settled into her kennel while Bobby was away at work, and upon his return, he found her lounging contentedly in front of the television, surprisingly serene.

Taking a daring leap, he unlatched the kennel door, setting Lady free. Later that day, when Connie paid them a visit, she discovered the diminutive Chihuahua nestled in Bobby’s embrace, the two of them engrossed in TV, their camaraderie palpable.

Never before had Connie witnessed such a transformation in her tiny companion. Lady, notorious for her aversion to everyone, had swiftly bonded with Bobby, their connection growing stronger by the day. For Bobby, grappling with the lingering ache of his divorce, every moment was a battle against heartache and confusion.

Days melded into one another as Bobby struggled to find motivation, yet amidst the turmoil, Lady emerged as his beacon of joy. Surprisingly, this pint-sized pooch had captured his heart, offering solace in the midst of despair. Despite the burgeoning bond, Bobby remained cognizant of Lady’s prior allegiances and the inevitable separation looming ahead.

With a heavy heart, Bobby resolved to seek a companion of his own, mindful of the transient nature of their bond.

Bobby’s quest centered on finding a canine reminiscent of Lady or his late grandfather’s beloved Minpin, Lucy. His initial discovery was a brown and tan dog named Kira, who hailed from less than ideal circumstances and lacked basic training.

Their initial encounter didn’t align with Bobby’s expectations. He assumed any dog would respond to him with the same unconditional affection Lady always did. However, Kira’s reaction was quite the opposite; she growled and barked incessantly in his presence.

Recognizing that others might struggle to see past Kira’s hostile demeanor, Bobby resolved to offer her a chance at a better life. Determined to transform her disposition, he embarked on the journey home with Kira, where, by journey’s end, she had nestled into his embrace.

Kira ended up being older than Bobby had originally planned for, as his intention was to raise a dog from puppyhood. Consequently, he embarked on a quest to find another companion. His search led him to Harley, but it didn’t take long for Bobby to detect that something was amiss. Despite the owners’ claims of an unexpected litter, a slip of tongue from one of their children revealed that they were breeding dogs within the family, resulting in fragile offspring.

This realization triggered Bobby’s awareness of a troubling pattern of neglect and mistreatment, compelling him to take action. He couldn’t simply stand by and witness such injustices. Thus, he took Harley under his wing and returned to adopt Quinny from the same litter.

Nevertheless, Bobby still grappled with inner turmoil stemming from emotional wounds, making his birthday that year an arduous ordeal. Seeking solace and distraction, he opted to steer clear of social media and turned to Craigslist instead. There, almost serendipitously, he stumbled upon Lucy, whose resemblance to his grandfather’s Minpin was uncanny.

Bobby’s journey to rehome Lucy began with a sense of urgency from her owner, who was adamant about finding her a new home immediately. Despite Bobby’s request for a couple of days to prepare, the owner insisted that he come that very day, even offering to lower the rehoming fee. Thus, on his birthday, Bobby embarked on a five-hour drive with resolve.

Lucy’s origins were grim; she had been discovered wandering near a trailer park, a pitiful sight. The woman who found her diligently went from trailer to trailer, until finally locating Lucy’s previous owner. To Bobby’s dismay, the owner callously declared she no longer wanted “that thing.” After gathering information from concerned neighbors and rushing Lucy to an emergency vet, it became painfully clear that Lucy had been subjected to the horrors of being a bait dog in dogfighting circles.

The evidence of her past was stark: Lucy was emaciated, her body marred by the scars of countless bites, and she bore the weight of several broken bones. The trauma she endured left her understandably fearful of others. Yet, when Bobby entered her life, something shifted. Despite her harrowing past, Lucy found solace in Bobby’s presence, seeking refuge in his lap as if she instinctively knew she had found her forever home.

And so Bobby’s noble mission persisted! He persevered in rescuing dogs subjected to abuse, neglect, and abandonment, offering them a pathway to a brighter existence. The culmination of his dedication came with the establishment of Bug Guy Littles World Sanctuary, primarily sustained through his own resources. Despite grappling with financial constraints, Bobby’s resolve remained steadfast, resulting in the rescue and care of over 30 dogs, with his commitment undiminished.

The toil, strain, and determination invested by Bobby yielded immeasurable rewards. The affection lavished upon him by the diminutive canines he rehabilitated and placed in loving homes constituted the ultimate gratification, propelling him forward in his mission. A diminutive Chihuahua once saved Bobby’s own life, an act he now reciprocates by affording these tiny companions a renewed lease on life, a commitment he vows to uphold indefinitely.
