When Tracey bid farewell to Hayden, her beloved German Shepherd, a few years back, it left a poignant void in her home, one that seemed to expand with each passing day. Since that sorrowful loss, Tracey has made it her mission to provide loving homes to pups that others overlook in animal shelters. Presently, her abode is bustling with eight furry companions, each embracing life to the fullest with Tracey as their devoted guardian.
Tracey, the devoted owner of Hayden, shared with Bored Panda the courageous battle her pup waged against degenerative myelopathy, a relentless ailment that eventually left him wheelchair-bound. Yet, even in his twilight days, Hayden remained a beacon of spirit and hope, frolicking until his strength waned entirely.
“Though I dearly miss Hayden, his resilience inspires me to make a meaningful difference for other dogs facing similar challenges,” Tracey remarked. Presently, her household boasts eight cherished pets, six of whom are special needs animals that found their way into their lives through serendipitous encounters or heartfelt pleas at adoption events. The remaining two were previously under the care of dear friends who have since departed.
To visitors, Tracey offers a simple yet heartfelt warning: tread carefully, for these sweet pups may inadvertently roll over your heart with their charm as you stroll through town.
Tracey’s affection for her pups knows no bounds. She cherishes each of her dogs equally, and they reciprocate this love wholeheartedly, relishing every moment spent in her presence. One unique way she expresses her devotion is during the winter months when snow blankets the ground—replacing their wheelchairs with skis, a delightful experience for both Tracey and her furry companions.
Acknowledging that these pets may not be suited for everyone, the compassionate woman emphasizes that caring for them isn’t overly challenging. “If the thought of dealing with bodily functions makes you squeamish, then adopting a special needs pet might not be the right fit for you! But truthfully, it’s no different from tending to a pet with four working limbs.”
The Fowler Herd shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon! With grand aspirations for the winter ahead, the company’s founder remains steadfast in her determination to see them through. “If we can demonstrate to even one pet owner that there are alternatives to bidding farewell, that would mark a significant triumph,” asserts the resolute entrepreneur.
